READ NINETEEN’S REVIEW FROM THE 2006 TIME OUT DUBAI EATING OUT GUIDE

Forget any pre-conceived notions you may have about restaurants at golf clubs, because Nineteen really is a cut above.  In fact, it’s one of the classiest new restaurants in the city.

The dark wood décor and modern comfy chairs create a warm and elegant setting for evening diners, although there is also an outdoor terrace should you prefer al fresco.

To begin, the dome of goat’s cheese with rocket salad, walnuts in oil, java peppers and artichoke hearts is a sumptuous start and almost a meal in itself, but the salmon chowder is an excellent alternative.

The Thai green curry with lemongrass, coconut milk, and basmati rice is perfectly spiced and full of warm rich flavours.  For seafood devotees, the seared scallops with laksa noodles and saffron sauce are also a tender and tasty choice.

The restaurant is open plan so you can see into the show kitchen and watch chef Nicolas Valero (formerly of Signatures) and his team creating their little works of art ~ and the desserts really do border on artistic creations.  Their chocolate fondant with almond ice-cream and vanilla pod sauce is up there with the best desserts in Dubai, while the white chocolate soup with roasted, caramelized pineapple and a hint of basil is sumptuous, velvety smooth, and a brilliantly inventive alternative to the norm.

And not a ruddy-faced golfer telling dirty jokes or a Pringle jumper in sight ~ just excellent food in wonderful surroundings.
