HOLE 9 - NOMADS

This hole which is a long par five wanders disconsolately through the wedge between the driving range and some fenced housing. It covers an interesting trail winding through alternate patches of green fairway and two lakes with thickets of date palms punctuating the path.

Hole 9 - Nomads

Like three of the par fives on this golf course, this is a three shotter for all but a handful of the world’s golfers and sometimes for them too. If you miss hit, your second or third shot on this hole there is no way you will get a birdie which is the essence of a good par five.

The green is large but the bunkered part of it is small so that this hole can be set up for all types of players in line with Jeremy Bentham’s and John Stewart Mills’ theory of utilitarianism- the greatest good for the greatest number of people. For most golfers this is two hard belts and a wedge to sympathetic green. They will probably need sympathy on these long par fives. However, these challenging holes need not and should not be played so long for the average player.
